How to download and update your Udyam certificate

The Udyam certificate is the proof of MSME status that banks, buyers and government tenders ask for. It costs nothing, it does not expire, and you can download a fresh copy whenever you need one, as long as you can receive an OTP on the mobile or email you registered with.

Quick answer

Go to the official portal, udyamregistration.gov.in, open Print / Verify and choose Print Udyam Certificate. Enter your 19-character Udyam Registration Number (it starts with UDYAM-), choose OTP on the registered mobile or email, enter the OTP, and save the certificate as a PDF. There is no fee, and the certificate has no expiry or renewal.

Buying from small suppliers? Companies report payments overdue beyond 45 days in MSME Form 1, twice a year.

Download the certificate, step by step

  1. Open udyamregistration.gov.in. Use only the .gov.in site: look-alike sites charge for a service that is free.
  2. From the Print / Verify menu choose Print Udyam Certificate.
  3. Enter the Udyam Registration Number, for example UDYAM-DL-01-0001234, and choose whether the OTP goes to the registered mobile or email.
  4. Enter the OTP. The certificate opens with its annexure listing your activities and NIC codes.
  5. Print it or save it as a PDF. A printed copy is as valid as the first one issued.

To check someone else’s registration, for example a supplier claiming MSME payment protection, use Verify Udyam Registration Number on the same menu.

Update your details

Choose Update Details on the portal, sign in with the Udyam number and an OTP, and edit the form. Udyam holders are expected to update the previous year’s ITR and GST details online; the classification as micro, small or medium is worked out from investment and turnover, using information from the income-tax and GST systems.

CategoryInvestment in plant and machineryTurnover
MicroUp to ₹2.5 croreUp to ₹10 crore
SmallUp to ₹25 croreUp to ₹100 crore
MediumUp to ₹125 croreUp to ₹500 crore

The limits apply from 1 April 2025. A change of address, activity, bank account or ownership should also be updated, because the certificate is what buyers and lenders check.

If you still hold a Udyog Aadhaar

Udyog Aadhaar (UAM) was replaced by Udyam registration. The portal has a separate option to migrate a UAM registration to Udyam; once migrated you get a Udyam number and download the certificate in the same way. Benefits such as the MSME 45-day payment protection and priority-sector lending are tied to Udyam, so migrate rather than relying on an old UAM certificate.

Common problems

  • OTP not arriving: it goes only to the mobile or email given at registration. If you no longer have access to either, the registered contact has to be changed before you can download; we can help with that.
  • Wrong category shown: update the ITR and GST details; the classification follows them.
  • Someone asked you to pay for the certificate: the government charges nothing. Paying a professional to register or correct details is a choice, not a requirement.
