Quick answer

Apply on foscos.fssai.gov.in: choose your state and kind of business, fill Form A for basic registration (turnover up to ₹1.5 crore) or Form B for a licence, upload the documents and pay the fee. Government fees are ₹100 a year for registration, ₹2,000 to ₹5,000 a year for a state licence depending on the kind of business, and ₹7,500 a year for a central licence. Registrations and licences issued from 1 April 2026 are valid without renewal, but the fee must be kept paid.

The tier also depends on what you do and your production capacity, so a small manufacturer can need a licence below the turnover limit. Our FSSAI tiers and fees guide explains the categories.

Apply on FoSCoS, step by step

  1. Open foscos.fssai.gov.in and choose Apply for License/Registration; create an account with your mobile number and email, or log in.
  2. Select the state where the premises are and the kind of business: manufacturer, trader, restaurant, cloud kitchen, storage, transporter or e-commerce seller.
  3. FoSCoS shows whether you need registration, a state licence or a central licence. Fill Form A or Form B accordingly.
  4. Upload the documents and pay the fee for the number of years you choose.
  5. Save the application reference and follow it with Track Application. Basic registration is usually granted within seven working days; licences take longer and can involve an inspection.

  • Licence holders file an annual return in Form D1 where it applies.
