What is GST Annual Return (GSTR-9)?

GSTR-9 is the annual GST return that consolidates a full financial year of GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B filings — mandatory for regular taxpayers with turnover above ₹2 crore, due 31 December following the year, with GSTR-9C self-certified reconciliation added above ₹5 crore.

Treated properly, it is not a form but an audit of your own year: output tax per books versus returns, input credit availed versus GSTR-2B, and the differences either explained or paid via DRC-03 before the department finds them. Late filing costs up to 0.5% of turnover; a careless filing costs more later, because GSTR-9 admissions anchor future scrutiny. We prepare it from a full-year reconciliation, not by copying autofilled figures.
